House of the Trembling Madness @ York
Historic York, named by the Romans and Vikings after the Wild Boar that roamed here. Modern day York is now roamed by tourists, students, stag and hen parties. Not our usual surroundings for a Yorkshire pub walk but certainly plenty to see and do.
Sunday 3rd March 2024
Cheesed off with walking through boggy fields, we decided to avoid the mud and walk around the walls of York. So I checked out a dog friendly pub and we headed into York.
Roxy was a bit confused when we got on the park and ride and even more confused when we ended up battling through the tourist filled streets. Unfortunately dogs are not allowed on the city walls
Leaving all the tourist attractions behind we followed the swollen river Ouse to the millennium bridge then back through the city. Roxy got excited with Squirrels in museum gardens. We headed back to the centre and the House of Trembling Madness, an unusual pub hidden away above a shop. All the cask ales were off and despite the reviews no dogs allowed, so we headed to Ye Olde Starre Inne – the oldest pub in York. After switching out Trish’s dodgy pint for a G&T we got a bite to eat.
We were told there was another House of Trembling Madness that was dog friendly on Lendal, so we couldn’t resist and found a table in the basement. A Belgian blonde and cask pale ale were very welcome whilst Roxy curled up and relaxed under the table.
Not exactly what we planned but turned out to be a good day and if you don’t have a dog with you try the wall walk.
