The White Bear at Masham

Home of Theakston’s brewery, this 8 mile walk has stunning views of the river Ure and a trip through the magical Hackfall woods

Sunday 11th June 2023

I once took a walk in the deep dark wood, I saw Fishers Hall and it sure looked good.

No gruffalo’s but Hackfall Wood makes for a very interesting wonder. Fishers Hall was built in 1750, it once had a thatched roof and used for picnics.

Starting at the White Bear we passed through Masham Market, then the church yard, over fields until we’re walking alongside the River Ure which takes you to Hackfall Woods. The route back takes you across more woods to the Swinton Estate and back into Masham.

The White Bear owned by the infamous Theakston Brewery is a most excellent watering hole. We had a Theakston Blonde and Trish had an Aperol Spritz chaser to quench her thirst in this searing heat. Roxy collapsed, 14 miles in two days was a bit too much.
