The Lister Arms at Malham
Taking in Janet’s Foss, Gordale Scar, Malham Tarn and the jaw dropping Malham Cove this walk is packed with beautiful Yorkshire scenery.
Saturday 30th September 2023
Not a lot has changed since we first did this walk 32 years ago. Arguably one of the best pub walks in Yorkshire, with dramatic scenery and the charming village of Malham.
We stayed overnight at the dog friendly Beck Hall, Roxy felt completely at home in front of the fire in the snug. A cracking breakfast set us up for the day, so we set off from Malham through fields to a beautiful waterfall in the woods called Janet’s Foss.
On through the valley to Gordale scar, impossible to climb in this weather, so back down the valley and up the hill for amazing views over the scar.
A long walk took us round the back of Malham tarn and then the rain
came. After some knee treatment for Trish we headed towards Malham cove. It was tough going but she soldiered on and even managed to navigate the limestone pavement at the top of the cove.
After watching some crazy guys climbing up the cove in the rain we headed back to the Lister Arms in the village. Roxy got dry by the fire whilst we had a welcome pint of Blonde from the Dark Horse brewery.
Over 6 hours and 10 miles this is a classic walk but best done when the sun is out.
